What Is New Google MUM Algorithm? (2021)

The search engine giant Google is evidently making consistent efforts towards providing consumers with extraordinary ways of searching and consuming content.

The introduction of all-new MUM technology is a clear indication of its significant investment and innovation in the AI (Artificial intelligence) space. Launched with an aim to minimize the number of searches and its associated complexities, the Google MUM is a multi-modal-based algorithm.

The term multi-modal here implies that MUM can generate rich search results by retrieving information from different formats such as webpages, images, videos, and more, concurrently.

For more information on what is MUM and how it will impact SEO, keep reading.

What is MUM?

Google MUM is a relatively new algorithm launched with the objective of solving complex search queries. The MUM algorithm can comprehend 75 distinct languages and generate insightful results based on them.

The algorithm’s strength lies in the fact that it can handle multiple tasks simultaneously. It can read text, comprehend information, form deep understanding and knowledge about the concept, as well as scan videos and audios to generate multi-layered content that answers complex queries, at once only.

Similar to the previous BERT algorithm (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers), the MUM algorithm works on a transformer system.

Although it is much more efficient than Google’s all previous algorithms including google smith algorithm, Google panda algorithm and BERT algorithm. Specifically, when compared with the latest BERT model, MUM is believed to be 1000x more efficient.

How Google MUM algorithm will impact SEO?

Since the MUM algorithm is based on artificial intelligence, it is likely to impact website performance and its related SEO activities. Here are the most possible impacts expected to be observed:

No language barriers

The MUM algorithm will have the potential to convert knowledge gathered from websites into your preferred language. Thus, any information can be easily translated depending on the area from where the search is initiated.

Multimodality

MUM exhibits multi-sensory capabilities. Just like humans, it can interpret information from different sources to deliver a combined experience in a single instance.

Multitasking

For a better understanding of search queries, the MUM algorithm can carry out simultaneous multiple tasks. It can understand concurrent information and analyze differences to come up with a more accurate result.

With this advanced algorithm and google updates in the pipeline, definitely, SEOs and content marketers will have to work on optimizing content with multimedia formats. Moreover, it will emphasize making content more utilitarian accounting for linking to related information.

Conclusion

The debut of MUM technology implies better search results, but it may also introduce new patterns around search results. However, it is an important achievement from Google where the search engine can understand all possible ways through which people communicate and interpret information.
